Ground Water Aquifers

Ground water aquifers are at risk from drilling and fracking activities and associated waste disposal practices due to loose regulations and lax oversight. According to an LA Times report, the Brown Administration's Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources has admitted to allowing construction of wells that inject fluids, including wastewater, directly into protected aquifers, in clear violation of the law. These illegal injections are contaminating public drinking water in scores of aquifers across the state, including in Los Angeles County. Earthjustice, the Center for Biological Diversity, and the Sierra Club have recently filed suit to block these illegal activities.
