Neighborhood Oil Drilling
Sierra Club’s Clean Break Committee is involved in multiple efforts to end our fossil fuel economy and justly transition to 100% clean, renewable energy.
We have 3 main demands around ending the extraction of fossil fuels in CA:
- Phase-out of existing oil and gas production in line with the Paris climate goals, with a just and equitable transition that protects workers, communities, and economies.
- Begin by first phasing out oil production in places that are suffering most from the impacts of fossil fuel extraction—by creating a 3,200-foot health and safety buffer zone between fossil-fuel infrastructure and homes, schools, parks, and other sensitive sites.
- Lead by issuing no new permits for oil and gas extraction, fossil fuel infrastructure, or petrochemical projects in California.
